GOAL 3. In progress.
GOAL 1. Inspired by the concept of a ‘flipped’ classroom, I would like to add more hands-on experiential learning opportunities in my classes.
GOAL 2. Co-lead the Redesign of Fashion Classroom H316 with Kristi Kennedy. The goal is to create a sustainable classroom space that can be converted into a showroom/event space for students with a modern appeal. Some key elements include a focus on updating the visual experience: technical AV upgrades and lighting for accurately showing both digital and physical material related to colours/trend and marketing along with new on-trend and functional furniture selection. This business-oriented space will be designed to emulate real world industry settings and appeal to the visual nature of fashion students.
GOAL 3. Revamp and develop new course content and learning material for my Innovative Fashion Promotions course. This course will evolve from my Integrated Marketing Communications course to focus more directly on the innovative and dynamic strategies to used in Fashion Marketing today.
GOAL 1. In progress. Experimenting with more hands-on experiential learning methods, specific details to be provided by end of 2019. To further this initiative, fellow Professor Kristi Kennedy and I hosted an Experiential Learning Mini-Conference for all the faculty members of the Fashion Arts and Business Diploma program to share best practices and grow experiential learning opportunities across all courses in our program.
GOAL 2. In progress. The Redesign of Fashion Classroom H316 has included developing and planning the overall vision of the space. Working with Michelle Krivacic, Business Manager and Marcelle Barnwell, Coordinator, Capital Development and Facilities Management the completed actions include the following components. Initial sourcing of design component inspiration along with developing the design direction and supporting vision for how the space is used. Powerpoint presentation for reference with specific details, images, measurements and relevant links. Material sample approval. Selection of accent wall paint colour using fashion trend report data. Meeting with Capital Development and Facilities Management to determine the details of storage and millwork required. Review of millwork plan and elevations, selection of textured laminate finish and custom furniture selection. At this time classroom renovations are underway and students and faculty have had extremely positive comments about the updates to date.
GOAL 3. In progress.
GOAL 1. Continue to improve SFQ scores related to useful student feedback with a focus on real-time feedback
GOAL 2. Focus on technology and the learning experience including participating in The Business School’s Microsoft Surface Pro Faculty Deployment Study and The Centre for Teaching and Learning’s Learning Management System (LMS) Quest as a member of the LMS Steering Committee
GOAL 3. Redesign aesthetics of visual learning aids for my Introduction to Marketing course
GOAL 1. Experimented with using various real-time feedback and evaluation methods across multiple courses to provide students with instantaneous and meaningful in-the-moment assessments. Details on one approach I used with proven results can be found in my post Quick Feedback with Technology.
GOAL 2. Experimented with ways to use the Microsoft Surface Pro device to benefit the student experience in my courses including using this technology to provide real-time feedback for students and to lower response time to student email inquiries. Positive results were experienced including nearly perfect SFQ scores on response time. Details on my involvement in Humber’s LMS Quest can be found in my post on the LMS Steering Committee.
GOAL 3. My courses are always taught with current, up-to-the-minute content that interactively engages students with fashion industry concepts and helps them develop professional skills. Beyond the content updates, This year I took things one step further and provided students with an updated visual experience that incorporates current design trends into the visual resources presented. Positive feedback from students was received within the first few weeks on this initiative!
GOAL 1. Update my Teaching and Learning e-portfolio with current content and a webpage redesign
GOAL 2. Expand my course repertoire and teach a course in Adobe Creative Suite in the Fashion Arts and Business program
GOAL 3. Continue to improve SFQ scores related to student communication and feedback
GOAL 1. Updated my Teaching and Learning e-portfolio with current content including full updates in my Professional Background, Academic CV, Courses, Student Work, Signature Classroom Techniques, TEP Project, Goals and Learning Plan, Feedback Area, and Events. Applied web design, coding, SEO, and social media skills acquired since the first launch of my e-portfolio site.
GOAL 2. In Fall 2015, I taught Advanced Creative Suite in the Fashion Arts and Business program which included a full course preparation and the development of two major assignments, five practical assignments, and two exams. One of the major assignments was developed in partnership with other Professors in the program so students could create a poster for the Fashion Arts’ Walk It Out Fashion event held the following semester in Spring 2016. The posters were displayed and judged in the curated Poster Factory event held in the Learning Resource Commons (LRC). Making me particularly proud, a poster designed by a student in my section was the “People’s Choice Winner” at the exhibit. Details can be found in The Poster Factory Exhibit Event.
GOAL 3. Experimented with using Blackboard Email feature instead of Blackboard Course Message feature to create a more efficient correspondence experience for both my students and myself and to decrease response times to student inquiries. Verbal and SFQ feedback from students was positive related to this initiative and therefore I will continue with this approach in future semesters.
GOAL 1. Revamp the Group Project and Individual Project in FASH 119: Introduction to Marketing course
GOAL 2. Increase and update the technical components of my Social Media Student Projects to incorporate the most current industry techniques and add a marketing metrics analysis
GOAL 3. Increase my involvement in the marketing of Humber Fashion programs
GOAL 1. Completely overhauled the Group and Individual project deliverables in FASH 119 Introduction to Marketing. Switched the scheduling of each project during the semester so the Group Project is scheduled earlier in the semester before the Individual Project. This change was made in order to get students interacting together early on to help build relationships of first year students in the classroom. The Individual Project is built through the full semester so students are engaged with and work through all concepts to complete their finished submission emphasizing a first-hand application experience. Feedback from the students is that they are comfortable with the material on the Final Exam because they can recall content used for their Individual Project.
GOAL 2. Updated Social Media Student Project deliverables and responsibilities across various platforms. A marketing metrics analysis component was added using Google Analytics, giving students hands-on experience with industry applicable tools. An example of student work can be found in Create A Brand and Its Digital Strategy.
GOAL 3. Volunteered as the Intern Employer and Contact for the Fashion Arts Blog. I mentored Efstathia Theodosiou, my Student Intern, through her two semester co-op placement as the Editor-In-Chief of the Fashion Arts Student Blog and Manager of our Fashion Humber social media presence. Efstathia’s reflection piece on the process can be found in her report Reflection: Fashion Arts Student Blog Internship 2015.
GOAL 1. Implement new feedback procedures to increase my SFQ scores on Question 9: The professor provided me with useful feedback about my progress
GOAL 2. Organize a field trip to take our learning outside the classroom
GOAL 3. Carry on with my third goal of 2012-2013 of organizing additional Guest Speaker Classroom Visits
GOAL 1. In addition to my heightened attention to verbal feedback, I utilized a new grading and feedback workflow to provide students with individualized feedback sheets with rubric breakdown and written comments in a computer printed format. Also provided students with grade calculators so that at any point in the semester they know exactly how they are performing.
GOAL 2. Organized a field trip for all Humber Fashion students across the Fashion Arts Diploma, Fashion Management Degree and Fashion Management and Promotions Postgraduate Certificate programs in the Fall 2013 semester. Details can be found in the Humber Fashion Event: Hermès Festival des Métiers at the Design Exchange.
GOAL 3. Organized a guest speaker to visit to join my class in the Winter 2014 semester. Details can be found in the Industry Spotlight: Stephanie Sterjovski Creative Director of SS Print Shop and SS Life + Style Blog.
GOAL 1. Introduce more classroom activities and variety into my lesson plans
GOAL 2. Make an impactful and positive contribution to Humber’s new FMPC Program through course outline development and creating classroom content
GOAL 3. Organize a Guest Speaker Classroom Visit
GOAL 1. Reviewed my lesson plans week by week throughout the year. To make this goal measurable, I focused on twenty minute intervals. Created a variety of activities in which students apply and think critically about the material covered within these intervals.
GOAL 2. Took on the responsibility of developing the first Course Outlines for multiple courses in Humber’s new Fashion Management Postgraduate Certificate (FMPC) Program. Actively participated in The Centre for Teaching & Learning “Course Outlines that Matter” Workshop with Eileen De Courcy to improve my course outline writing skills. I also developed material and taught in the FMPC program.
GOAL 3. Co-organized, with Professor Anna Zamparo, a guest speaker to join our classes in the Winter 2013 semester. Details can be found in the Industry Spotlight: Zebra Studios’ Phil Falcone Class Visit.
