Students were in the middle of working on an assignment to create posters for the upcoming Walk It Out 2016: Euphoria Fashion Event. I took my students in groups over to The Print Centre to get an exclusive VIP tour and ask any questions they had relevant to printing their final work. Discussions focused on printing technology, file types, the difference in appearance between viewing on-screen versus printed copy, paper stock options, costs, and lead times required. The students enjoyed the hands-on binding demonstration and the 3D printer. Many had never seen a 3D printer before and we discussed how this impacts the industry and is a huge advancement for fashion product development. Many students also had questions about print shop technologies and finishing techniques for other ideas and projects they are working on in other areas of the program. A big “thank you” to Freddy at The Grenville Print Centre who accommodated the class and lead great tours.
